Velocity Wing Foiling School

We created Velocity Wing Foiling School to help anyone who wants to try foiling, get those first flights dialled, or turn like a pro.

We've carefully put together a programme aimed to take you though from the first time you jump on a board, to the first time you jump with one!

Find out about our lessons and coaching.

Who are we?

We are a small team: Rod, Julia and Pete, who are all RYA qualified wingfoil instructors.

Rod D: has been foiling for four years, and is a regular on the UKWA wingfoil racing circuit. If you want to go fast, speak to Rod!

Julia Kul: is in her second season of foiling. She comes from a non-sailing background and so knows what it's like to start from scratch.

Pete Moorland: started foiling in 2020 having seen foiling in France. You'll often see him out in S. Wales and soon as there's a hint of wind.

What you'll learn on our programme:

Learning about the Wind: Understand wind dynamics and how it affects your wing foiling experience.

Equipment Requirements: Get familiar with the gear you'll need for a successful ride.

Handling and Assembling Equipment: Learn the ins and outs of setting up your gear.

Entry-Level Winging Water Lessons: Dive into the basics of wing foiling on the water.

Learning to Hydrofoil: Discover the exhilarating feeling of foiling.

Fundamental Manoeuvres: Master essential techniques.

Advanced Manoeuvres: Take your skills to the next level.

Why choose velocity?

Ideal location: learning is easiest in flat and safe water.

Ideal conditions: because we are a small, non-commercial team, we only run lessons when it's the right conditions, with enough wind. So that you can learn and progress.

Comprehensive content: the programme we have put together will take you from for the first time you step on a board, though intermediate to advanced level winging. In addition to our core classes we have clinics for focusing on those key manoeuvres and coaching sessions tailored to your exact level and riding.

The right gear: Velocity has the latest beginner focused equipment from AFS foiling. Our equipment is tailored for easy learning for complete beginners to improver wing foilers. We will supply you with everything you will need for your session: From wetsuits and buoyancy aids to the latest full carbon hydrofoils and Wings from AFS foiling.

Community Interaction: Foiling on your own is great, but it's always better to share the stoke. The Velocity team is always up for a session. But we are also planning on a series of demo-sessions (when it is windy) to try out new gear, ask questions, share experiences, and connect with fellow wing enthusiasts.

Why Cheddar / Axbridge reservoir?

BCYC Velocity Wing Foiling School is based at Cheddar / Axbridge reservoir in Somerset just south of Bristol and is part of the Sailing club which is an RYA training centre.

The reservoir is a kilometer across and offers very safe, flat water in a beautiful location to help make your foiling journey as easy as possible. The location and Club have excellent facilities with car parking right next to the water, a fully equipped clubhouse with showers and changing facilities.

Cheddar reservoir is just a few miles from the sea and benefits from the regular sea breezes blowing down the Bristol channel in the summer months, making for perfect wingfoiling conditions.

At BCYC there is a thriving community of over 100 Wing foilers using the water on a regular basis, learning from each other, swapping equipment and enthusiasm. The location has quickly become one of the most popular wingfoiling destinations in the South West.

After your course you can also become a member of BCYC and our wingfoil community.
