BCYC caters for dinghy sailors, windsurfers, paddle boarders, canoeists and kayakers wanting to participate in watersports on Cheddar Reservoir.
BCYC always welcomes new members, from complete beginners to experienced and top class racers. Please feel free to visit the club and see for yourself. Sundays are probably best as this is when we are busiest. If you introduce yourself to the duty crew in the galley or race box, they will be happy to find a committee member or experienced sailor to talk to you about your particular areas of interest.
The club currently has outside boat storage and a short waiting list for indoor storage. The costs for both indoor and outdoor storage are included in the membership pack.--
The club is run by members for members
As a club, we aim to be fully inclusive and do our utmost to provide a safe environment to enjoy water based activities. Our Club Constitution and Rules are designed to ensure we remain legally compliant, and provide guidance for members.
BCYC is a Corinthian Club, which means it is run by the members, for the members. We do not employ staff and all adult members help to keep the club running safely and effectively by carrying out several Corinthian days per year.
New members undertake the free one-day club safety boat training. Once completed, they are qualified to assist the Officer of the Day. Any members who have not done the safety boat training can carry out galley duties, which involves such as preparing and serving simple meals and drinks. All tasks are clearly explained with written instructions in manuals. New members are teamed with experienced members for their Corinthian Days and many see this as a great opportunity to learn all about the club and to meet new people.
Our annual membership period is from March each year. There is winter membership for sailors from local clubs.
