Membership Details
OVERVIEW
BCYC welcomes new members. We have facilities for dinghy sailors, windsurfers, Wing Foilers, SUPers, canoeists and kayakers and our membership includes all ranges of experience from complete beginners to experienced and top-class racers.
The Club is set on the southern side of the Mendip Hills and enjoys stunning views over the Somerset countryside which are second to none. We have a modern clubhouse with hot showers, a large club room, a well run galley from which to purchase food and drinks and an attractive bar where you can sit and relax with newly made friends and watch the antics of the amazing bird life as the sun begins to set. It will all certainly set you up for the busy working week ahead. Please feel free to come and see for yourself. The club is open and busiest on Saturdays and Sundays. Come into the main bar area to the reception and someone should be on hand to talk to you. If there isn't anyone there introduce yourself to the duty crew who will be able to help you.
As a club, we aim to be fully inclusive and do our utmost to provide a safe environment for everyone to enjoy water-based activities. Our Club Constitution and Rules are designed to ensure we remain legally compliant and provide guidance for members.
DUTIES
BCYC is a Corinthian Club, which means it is run by the members, for the members. We do not employ staff and all adult members help to keep the club running safely and effectively by carrying out several Corinthian days per year.
New members undertake the free one-day club safety boat training. Once completed, they are qualified to assist the Officer of the Day. There are a limited number of roles for those who have not yet been able to complete the safety boat training. New members are teamed with experienced members for their Corinthian Days and many see this as a great opportunity to learn all about the club and to meet new people.
