Social Sailing at BCYC - Every Saturday May - September
Published 17:50 on 22 Apr 2025
There is a big transition from learning to sail to being confident to go on the water in all conditions.
BCYC General Committee recognised that this gap needed to be filled and have organised for a club sailing coach to be on site every saturday to offer advise, practical help and coaching to our sailing members.
Runniong from 10th May to 27th September 2025 - each session starts at 12:30 in the club with a cup of tea and introduxction and discussion about what the members attending would like to do.
This is not a free sailing lesson - its for sailors who can sail - but who are not confident about either aspects of their boat control, need help rigging, would like to start racing and dont know where to start or just indivuduals who want to find someone to sail with or just sail in company.
Members can use their own boat or if they have the qualifications or experience can hire a craft from the club.
its a great way to get on the water and to meet fellow members who arent afraid to admit they would like assistance or just confirmation they are doing it right.
Open to all ages, single and double handers - there is usually a bit of chat on the BCYC Sailing Buddies chat on WhatsApp, with people looking for crews or helms or talk about the weather.
Even if the weather is bad and the coach wouldnt want to put a boat on the water - there is plenty to discuss on the shore - from the racing rules , rigging, to details about boat controls and refreshers on how a sail works.
We look forward to seeing BCYC members at the club every Saturday to get on the water.
