COVID 19 - New Members CV
COVID 19 Membership Enquiry
Thank you very much for your enquiry for membership with us at BCYC. We are currently open but offering a limited self-organised and self-managed method for getting afloat under our buddy system.
The buddy system operates without rescue boats as we are unable to officially organise activities as a club. To access the water members arrange to go at the same time as others from their discipline and look out for each other's safety. As this is the only way to get afloat at the moment current members will need to accept you (someone they don't know) into their buddy groups. We're a relaxed bunch so this should be easy to organise but feel we have a responsibility to existing members to verify that you are self sufficient and safe on the water.
Therefore we are asking for something of a watersports CV. This gives us an idea of your background and what you are hoping to get out of your membership with us. I have outlined a few questions below, please keep your answers short it's not a test!
Names and ages of those applying
Previous clubs and approximate dates you belonged to them
Disciplines you intend to undertake at BCYC (Sail, Windsurf, SUP, Kayak)
Crafts you have had significant experience of using. Please identify those you intend to use at BCYC
Relevant qualifications (if any) that you hold/have held
What weather conditions would have you standing on the shore thinking 'maybe it's not suitable for me today'?
Any other comments
This is not intended to be onerous for you, please just click reply and type within the text of my message. Thank you in advance for your understanding and providing additional information.
I will pass this information onto the committee for consideration. If they approve your application, I will ask you to complete the standard membership form if you haven't already. I will then set you up on our system and send you an invoice. Once paid, I will provide introductory information, login details to our members portal and post you a club key.
It does usually take up to about a week to go from membership form received to fully enrolled and able to go afloat with a full orientation following later including basic powerboat training. If you want to get ahead of the game then please feel free to complete the membership form on our website (https://www.bcyc.org.uk/page/membership-1) and send it to me (electronic signatures accepted). By doing this, I can process your membership as soon as the committee approve your CV without another delay.
Many thanks and stay safe I hope to hear from you soon.
