How do I access the reservoir with my own equipment?
Access is a benefit of membership. You must be a club member or be signed in as a guest by a current member to use the water. Request a club key once membership is approved, this will allow you access to drive a vehicle up to the club house.
When is the water open for use?
Summer (BST): 7 days a week. Winter (GMT): 4 days a week (Wed, Thu, Sat, Sun). Full sailing times available here
As a member, your gate key provides access to the grounds whenever you wish.
Can I use a drone, kite surfer, or Motorised RC model?
No. Our agreement with Bristol Water strictly prohibits drones, kite surfers, dragon boats, and motorised RC models, RC Yachts are OK. Access is limited to sail, windsurf, wingfoil, SUP, kayak, canoe, and BCYC safety craft only.
Membership & Costs
Does my membership last for 12 months?
No. We operate on a fixed membership year that expires on the last day of February. However, we offer pro-rata discounts if you join after October 1st.
Is there a cheaper "SUP-only" membership?
No. We utilize a single-tariff system that applies equally to all members. This grants everyone full access to our professional facilities, including hot showers, storage, and safety boat cover.
How can I reduce my membership costs?
Referrals: Refer a new member; if they join and list you as the referrer, you receive £50 off your next year's fees. Paid Duties: Join the "Paid Duty List." Other members may pay you to complete a duty on their behalf.
Duties & Governance
Do I have to do duties if I don't race?
Yes. BCYC is a Corinthian club run entirely by volunteers. All members between ages 18 and 75 are required to complete two duties each year. You may swap with another member or pay someone from our approved list to cover it for you.
Why does the Committee have to vote on my application?
Vetting applications ensures our environment remains friendly and positive. This is also a formal requirement of our lease with Bristol Water.
Technical Support
I changed my email and now I can't log in.
Changing your email for communications does not automatically change your login username. If you need your login email updated, contact membership@bcyc.org.uk.
Why can't my family members log into their individual accounts?
If a specific email wasn't provided for a family member, their login defaults to the primary member's email. They must use their unique password (sent at signup) to access their specific profile. Unique emails per family member (over 18 yrs old) is a good idea!
