Social Sailing/Improvers - 2021
Many members are looking for the chance to improve basic skills like boat
handling and understanding of sail and rig controls etc as well as intending to
start club racing whilst enjoying the support and humour of a regular group who
sail together. The course is an open format which won't require attendance at
every session and crews will be able to swap within the group according to
availability, enabling everyone to sail as often as possible, fitting in with other
commitments like work and holidays etc.
This year's sessions will start on June 19th and run throughout, July and
August on the first and third Saturdays, 10.30 13.00hrs
Intended Participants
Those returning to sailing who wish to improve their basic skills.
Those who have just or previously completed the club RYA course.
Club members intending to start racing, or with some racing experience
wishing to develop/improve basic skills
N.B. This is not an absolute beginner's course, all participants should have
basic sailing ability.
Boat Availability
Ideally, participants should have their own boat, but hired club boats are
available (book in advance by email to boats@bcyc.org.uk ). Rigging &
tuning advice will be available
Clothing
Buoyancy aids are compulsory as per club rules
Wetsuits etc appropriate to weather conditions (gloves recommended)
Waterproof stopwatch essential
Course Format
Participants will not need to attend every session, enabling them to fit
sailing around other commitments. However, as the whole point is to
achieve improvement through regular practice, a reasonable attendance
would be expected in order to get value from the course.
You will need to use the online On Water registration (Buddy) form from
the members portal HERE to confirm you are going on the water. Sign on
