22nd May 2022

Back to Sailing Weekend

For BCYC Junior members - aged 8 - 15

These day long sessions are for BCYC Junior members with no (new to sailing) or minimal sailing experience.

These days are run on a monthly basis with professional RYA Qualified instructors. Parents do not need to stay at the club but must be contactable at all times.

(NOTE:- If parents do want to stay at the club then there is the opportunity for adult sailing lessons, coaching an help to get on the water.)

The emphasis will be time on the water and having fun, while following the youth sailing syllabus for progression of skills.

What is involved?

The day will be following RYA Stage 1 and maybe 2 syllabus, with individual progression at a rate suitable for each child.

If the weather is looking unsuitable - the day will be cancelled a a full refund offered

What Do I Need to Go Sailing?

The course provides all equipment needed, wetsuits, buoyancy aid and spray jacket, except you will need to provide shoes that can get wet (training shoes or pumps will do) and a towel.

Boats used will be the Club RS Tera and Club Toppers

Participants need to be a member of BCYC (along with a parent or guardian) . Social non sailing membership is available at a reduced price, but your parent/guardian may be asked to help out with the course. Free powerboat training is provided to members.

How Much Will it Cost?

The cost is £30 for the day. In addition if you would like to purchase an RYA work book or RYA Logbook - these can be obtained for £10 each. Please ask your instructor.

Will Parents need to Help with the training?

The simple answer is no - but if they do want to help - parents/guardians will be expected to literally roll their trousers up and get their feet wet. The aim is to get kids independently rigging and launching their boats to go sailing.

Lunch is not provided - so participants will need to bring a packed lunch

The club has Stand up paddleboards that you can take on the water , there will be people at the club to help parents rig their boat and get on the water, or book a 1:1 sailing lesson or taster session with an RYA instructor. - contact training@bcyc.org.uk
