Rota System

The Rota System is designed to meet the club’s requirements while achieving as far and fairly as possible the individual members preferences.

The Club’s requirements are dictated by the days the club is open and the years sailing programme. Staffing is arranged on each day to meet the anticipated workload.

Members can complete preference forms, which are distributed by Membership Secretary at renewal time, or downloaded from the club web page at any time. Individual preference changes such as dates unavailable can be e-mailed to the Rota Secretary at any time on rotasec@bcyc.org.uk

The Rota Sec compiles a rota for a period filling all the necessary positions with members with sufficient skills while meeting, if at all possible, their preferences. A computer system is used to try and ensure that all members do a similar number of duties over a period.

The rota is normally issued about eight weeks before it commences. After it is issued to all the members who are on it, if members find they are unable to do their duties it is up to them to arrange a swap with another member and then inform the Rota Secretary. It is much easier to tell the Rota Secretary of dates you cannot help early on than have to arrange a swap later on.
